From the Client…
A vieran woman dipped into the shop, closing her eyes at the rush of cool air and adjusting the braid hanging over her shoulder. The smell of warm tea hit her and a smile brushed over her face as she took quick stock of her surroundings and made her way to the counter, presenting the little tomestone she had found.
“Yjrn,” She introduced herself politely, “I found this in an old fort in the northern Black Shroud. Normally I wouldn’t think much of it but it’s got this rough engraving,” She flipped it over and rubbed the lines with her thumb, “I heard through the grapevine you might be able to tell me what’s on it?” There was a waivering note of nervousness in her tone and as she smiled at Amon she also seemed to start slightly.
“Oh! And for your service,” She brought out a pouch of gil to spill out on the counter, brow furrowed slightly as she moved the coins around in some strange manner of counting, “Is, er, is this enough? For the tome and the Sage tea?” She gave a sheepish smile, a woman who wasn’t really sure what she was doing but was very determined to do it all the same.
Tome Attributes: An unfamiliar glyph scratched into it, a name perhaps?
Gil Donation: 5000
Tea Order: Sage Scripture
Amon gave a winning smile, seeing that his newest client appeared to be a little uncertain of the exchange. He didn’t spare a glance at the gil, keeping his focus on the woman.
“Aye, welcome, Yjrn. I’m known as Amon, and I can most certainly help you with what you seek to learn about your Tome,” the Elezen told her in a kindly voice. “‘Tis no required cost for my services, but all that you offer is given as a donation to help keep the shop running. I do appreciate it full-fold!”
He then set about steeping her the sage tea she requested and offering her a place to wait at one of the cozy-looking tables.
“Please relax and make yourself at home. The baked goods are fresh and yours to have if you see something that looks appetizing. It shouldn’t take me very long to do a reading of your Tome. I admit that I, too, am curious about what this engraving might mean.”
This Tome appears to have stood the test of time quite well. It may have been hidden for a while or simply passed down and cared for by its keepers. Anyway, it boots up perfectly and the data is quite clear and easy to read. I wager that it may be a rather rare Tome – the quality of the data tells me that it’s not a copy of a copy of a copy. Though there could be other copies of this out there, ’tis hard to tell.
The topic is rather taboo for an Allagan to be keeping – that might lead to why it is so well kept. The title translates roughly to be: Dictionary of Secret Societies in the West Lands
The etching it bears is not of the Allagan alphabet, so I wonder if it’s related to one of these secret societies that the Tome details? Very curious! I think you’ve found something of note here.
Amon returns the strange Tome and a copy of the data to Yjrn with a note of excitement in his voice.
“My friend, I believe you might have discovered a Tome that would be of good interest to Allagan historians.” He offers her a page with a few names of Tome collectors circled. “If you’re looking for a buyer, I highly suggest trying some of these collectors first. But shop around and don’t take a low offer. I wish you the best of luck in whatever you seek to do!”
