Tome Appraisal for Ruzu'li "Tau" Nhintau
October 20, 2023
From the Client
A keeper of the moon miqo'te stands in the doorway of Amon's shop. "Oi," he says, almost barks. "This is where you can get tomes looked at, right?" With a short nod to Amon, Tau steps into the shop and produces a somewhat weathered tome from their bag.
"Found this while out deep in Garlemald hunting an S Rank mark. Truthfully, I wouldn't have bothered to take it to be appraised but... My friend is somewhat of an academic. She insisted I get it looked at. Something about wanting to advance research."
Tau eyes the tea menu. "I'll take whatever is your most caffeinated drink. Earl grey? I've only had coffee before," they say with a vague gesture. The miqo'te pushes a small bag of gil onto the counter. "From my friend, as payment. She was too busy to come here herself. Probably wants it backed up, if it can be."
Tome Attributes: Maybe water damaged - found buried in snow
Gil Donation: 1,000
Tea Order: Earl Grey Esoterics
Amon gives the Miqo’te a polite nod in return, and listens to all the fellow has to say before promptly getting to making the cup of Earl Grey.
“Early grey ‘tis a good choice, my friend, for one exploring tea for the first time,” the Elezen advised, then waved his hand at the confections. “Feel free to help yourself to any sweeteners and such you might desire.
“You have come to the right place if you are searching to unlock the mysteries of your Tome. Your friend is right to question the contents, because you never can tell if ‘tis worth more to a collector than what the standard trades would leave you to believe.”
Amon picked up the Tome and inspected it.
“I’m sure a backup will be no problem as long as the Tome can be read. Let me see what I can find for you, aye?”
Appraisal Outcome
While first on first glance, this Tome seems in good condition, something about it has suffered damage that makes it difficult to stay connected to my machine. A few wiggles here and there help it out, so I’ve still been able to read the data – quite esoteric, if I must say.
You were good to consider backing it up, because I feel like the days are numbered on how much longer before this Tome won’t scan at all. The backup seems successful, however, so your friend can rest assure that the knowledge is in much better hands now.
This is a Tome detailing what was known of various more feral Voidsent in the times of Allag, the text simply titled: The Book of Howling
I must admit, I’m a bit curious what it might contain as well.
“The Book of Howling,” Amon reiterated as he handed the original Tome and the copy to his client. “I can’t comment on the accuracy of what was documented here, but it might be of interest to scholars who study the Void in particular.
“Hopefully this will be of assistance to your friend. Please tell them they are welcome to send Tomes my way any time. And I do hope you enjoyed your first cup of tea.”
